About My Clients
My ideal client is someone who doesn't fit neatly into one or two identity boxes and feels limited by (and yet maybe drawn to?) the concept of labels. I have done a deep dive into what it means to be in my late 50s with inattentive type ADHD/formerly ADD, and how much those words do not make up all of me. Labels help, labels hurt, labels limit, labels liberate. My gift is in co-creating safe space for others to discover who they are, have been, and are becoming. I can do that for you!
My Background and Approach
I am a Clinical Mental Health Counseling Associate (CHMC) with over 30 years of experience working with students and families grades 6-12. For 26 of those years, I worked alongside twice-exceptional, neurodivergent, LGBTQIA+, and disenfranchised youth in a public alternative high school: students whose lateral wisdom and lived complexity consistently challenged and expanded my practice and being. I specialize in neurodivergent populations, LGBTQIA+, chronic illness, school refusal, and the intersection of identity, executive functioning, joy, creativity, and mental health for all ages. My approach draws on person-centered, constructivist methods, and I am currently building this private practice alongside part-time work in education.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
After decades of working with and helping students with IEPs (individualized education plans in the k-12 system) for ADHD, a colleague pointed out that I was a gen-X ADHD survivor. Mind blown, I have done a deep dive into what it means to be in my late 50s with inattentive type ADHD/formerly ADD, and how much those words do not make sense to all the women I have worked with who identify with, are exploring, or are diagnosed with ADHD like myself. Labels help, labels hurt, labels limit, labels liberate. Maybe hearing some more of my story will help you: I grew up on the east coast, went to college in Canada and moved to Seattle on a whim. I came out of the closet in 1994 and have supported so many others in their complex-unique-to-them identity journeys. I facilitated a Maybe Baby Group for lesbians in the early 2000s. I have experienced and witnessed miscarriages and births. I have experienced divorce, and blending a family with adopted children with hidden disabilities.
