About My Clients
My ideal clients prefer a direct approach that incorporates education on the way the brain and emotional functioning works, appropriate challenges to unhelpful thought patterns and exploration into the root of negative thoughts and/or behaviors. I have significant experience supporting law enforcement, emergency medical staff, veterans, men, adult children of alcoholics, individuals with chemical dependency concerns, complex trauma and severe, persistent mental illness.
My Background and Approach
My journey to becoming a mental health professional started at a young age when I was born into a family with deep trauma and limited resources. Through my 10+ years working in the mental health field I have learned that a direct, "no bullshit" therapist is something that people long for. Especially one who can understand the challenges of mental illness, poverty, generational curses, and the ebbs and flows of real life. I specialize in working with law enforcement, EMTs, adult children of addicts/alcoholics, severe and persistent mental illness, complex trauma histories and those living with addiction and/or in recovery. I have been a mental health professional and therapist for more than 5 years working with children, adults, couples and families. My approach to therapy is centered around being authentic, providing education and responding with compassion for each of my clients and the unique path they find themselves on.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that symptoms of mental illness are a part of the lived experience of every human being. Unlike generations before us, the trending topics of today's world lead us to pursue support for the parts of human existence that make us uncomfortable in greater numbers than ever. I have a passion for suicide prevention efforts. I participate on the leadership team of the PICK'M Up Suicide Prevention Coalition in Northeast Minnesota. Having been raised with 4 brothers, I believe that when men seek therapy it is often challenging to find a therapist that understands the differences in experienced and expressed emotions across genders that feels supportive for them. I am a mom to two wonderful daughters, a business owner, amateur gardener, live music lover and love riding in anything with 2-18 wheels.
