About My Clients

I specialize in working with adults that want to resolve traumatic experiences, body image/self-worth, difficult childhood experiences, relationship issues, identity/cultural issues, immigrant communities and issues of acculturation. In addition, I will help you explore various methods of managing stress using relaxation techniques.

My Background and Approach

I work from a trauma focused, strengths-based, holistic and somatic approach taking into consideration all aspects that have brought you to therapy. I believe that everyone is different, therefore, what may work for one person, may not work for everyone, so I am trained in various treatment modalities and will work with you to find what works best for you. This may include a mixture of treatments that focus on your thoughts and how they impact your emotions and behaviors (cognitive behavioral therapy), as well as a focus on the ways in which various experiences impact the physical sensations of your body (somatic based therapies). In addition to traditional talk therapy I am also trained in Brainspotting and have completed a 200 hour yoga teacher certification which I utilize to help clients form deeper connections to themselves and to their bodies, if that is what they are seeking.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

As an Immigrant, first-gen, and person of color, I find that my personal experiences have supported me to be an advocate for marginalized communities. At a young age, I always questioned gender norms, being from the Dominican Republic, I noticed the vast difference between how girls and boys in my family were treated. That questioning self persists until this day. I began my work volunteering for an agency that helped survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. Since then, I have advocated for women's rights and the rights of the LGBTQIA community. I understand the complexities of someone's mental health and view it as more than just a diagnosis and take into account a person's lived experiences and how systemic racism, acculturation, microaggression, sexism, gender norms, childhood experiences, etc can impact your world view. I believe that everyone can enter the healing journey at any stage in their lives to not only heal themselves but past generations.
