About My Clients
I enjoy working with individuals of all ages and backgrounds, and have a particular passion for working with youth and young people of color. As a Black man who grew up in predominantly white communities, racial identity was a large part of my youth experience, and I enjoy engaging with youth of color in the exploration and ongoing development of their own racial identities.
My Background and Approach
I largely utilize Person-Centered therapy, Reality/Choice therapy, and Child-Centered Play Therapy. Within the influence of Person-Centered therapy, I believes that you as the client are the expert in your own life. As your counselor, I am not here to direct you, fix you, or tell you what to do. My role is to listen to you with compassion and grace, and work collaboratively with you on your goals and confronting the current challenges in your life. The empowering traits of Reality/Choice therapy offers the opportunity to work with my clients on understanding their point of view within their current life and utilizing this lens to make active changes, plans, and goals for the future. When working with youth clients, I employ Child-Centered Play Therapy techniques to let my youth clients guide their stories and express themselves through the healing power of play. Within this I also utilize sandtray therapy, mindfulness techniques, and open narrative play opportunities.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that engaging within the therapy process is difficult, brave, and life-changing. I believe in the moving towards the future and that sometimes we need to process the past to get there. In particular, my passion is working with folks of color in navigating the particular challenges that arise while living as a non-white person is our society. It's an honor to walk alongside my clients in their healing journeys and feel free to reach out for a free consult call to see if we would be a great fit.
