Dave has extensive experience working with LGBTQIA+ adults, couples, and families experiencing a wide range of mental health concerns. Dave is kink, ace/aro, and poly informed and allied, and provides affirming care to all individuals.
My Background and Approach
Dave has over 20 years of training, professional, and personal experience integrating mindfulness practices into his work. Dave specializes in helping people who are struggling with high levels of shame, self-criticism, and feelings of unworthiness. Dave worked as a Buddhist chaplain before becoming a therapist and has experience helping adults work through religious and spiritual issues including religious trauma, spiritual bypass, stigma, and challenges that arise at the intersection of identities.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Dave brings a collaborative and strengths-based approach to therapy. His eclectic approach is grounded in person-centered, psychodynamic, and cognitive-behavioral theories. Dave also incorporates elements of Attachment theory, Narrative therapy, and Transpersonal and Depth psychologies into his work with clients. Outside his work with Magothy River Counseling, Dave enjoys playing RPGs and boardgames with friends, weightlifting (which he thinks of as Build-a-Bear time), and going on outdoor adventures with his dog.
