About My Clients
I enjoy working with clients who are often stuck between two extremes - feeling too much (anxiety, panic, hyper vigilance) or feeling to little (depression, disconnected from body, numbing of emotions and senses). Clients are often stuck in one of these states or moving back and forth between them without ever feeling regulated. For clients like this, the work involves not just the mental aspects of trauma but also helping them get to a more connected, regulated state with their body.
My Background and Approach
I have experience working with complex trauma and the many different ways that can present in terms of symptoms. I am trauma informed and believe it is important to both pace treatment at the pace clients are able to handle and to make sure I have good agreements with clients about what I am asking them to do. Facing traumatic experiences is often the last thing somebody wants to think about, and yet it is the first step towards getting to a resolution from those experiences. I see myself as a co-pilot on this journey, helping guide you through it, while you have your hands on the steering wheel.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe everyone has a right to heal, to feel accepted by society, to have a sense of community, to feel validated and understood, and to feel a sense of safety and security. All of these things are key for trauma work to be effective and tragically many people have experiences where some or all of these ingredients were denied them and are still being denied to them. I started my career working with clients in poverty, mainly immigrant and African-American communities because I was passionate about helping underserved communities. I have worked with the LGBTQ+ community in a limited fashion early in my career but consider myself an ally and am passionate about helping that community.
