About My Clients
In a world of pressure to "get it right" it's easy to feel wrong! Sometimes we face unchangeable circumstances. Sometimes we make hard choices. Sometimes we just think we're supposed to be different. I believe our greatest struggle is being torn between who we think we should be and who we are able to be. Exploring our origin stories, guiding values, and present choices allows us to align with who we are in a meaningful way. With respectful humor we can work together to find who you want to be.
My Background and Approach
Learning happens best in the presence of fun. Learning about ourselves and how we want to live can absolutely hold joy within the hard work and painful moments. StandUP Wellness is on a mission to provide mental health services and information in ways people enjoy and use. I believe mental health counseling is most effective when we build a relationship of mutual respect, trust, and enjoyment. Once we have that, the method modality we use to discuss your concerns should make sense to you and move you toward the changes you hope to make. I prefer an integrated approach of multiple theories and methods (ACT, Narrative, Humanistic, etc.).
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
We are all enough, just the way we are. So many of us are hoping to find enough on the other side of achievement, appeasement, and acceptance from others. We don't realize we're engaging in an internal rejection of ourselves in order to find enough somewhere else. I believe strongly that we all deserve to find our internal enough so we can live our lives in line with what we want and who we are. This belief is not just how I counsel, it's how I strive to live. I can't stop my internal shame messages, but I can choose to dismiss them (like bad advice at bar close...).
