About My Clients
Do daily tasks seem overwhelming? Do you often fall into bad habits, such as substance use or disordered eating, as a way to cope with current stressors? Are you unable to enjoy your present, or have meaningful goals for your future, because of traumatic past events that continuously resurface? Anxiety, addiction, depression and trauma can have detrimental effects on one's body and mind, which can feel uncontrollable. at time. I can assure you that you have the ability to manage your emotions.
My Background and Approach
I am a licensed Substance Abuse Counselor and Social Worker. My clients can expect empathy, compassion, and honesty throughout our entire therapeutic relationship. By providing effective tools to get through distressing or challenging times, I can help my clients find the motivation to live their healthiest lives. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as my primary treatment modality due to its effectiveness among a wide range of conditions, which demonstrates its versatility. CBT will allow the client to look at relationships between their thoughts, feelings and behaviors to help view challenging situations more clearly and respond to them in a more effective way.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that everybody has the right to their feelings and should be able to express their feelings without judgement or criticism. I think that most people just want to feel that their thoughts and feelings are valid, even if they don't always make sense. For instance, say you recently broke up with your partner due to being the recipient of emotional abuse (calling you names, constantly putting you down and criticizing you, etc.). You may understand that the breakup was necessary and even had others confirmed that it was the most "logical" thing to do. However, the amount of time and energy you spent throughout the years on this person leaves you feeling conflicted, particularly sad and lonely. I believe that it is important to validate feelings like these, rather than to ignore or rationalize them, so you can process the feelings associated with the breakup, for instance, and eventually feel more emotionally secure and confident in your ability to handle heartache in the future.
