About My Clients

I work with adolescents, adults, and couples. Individuals that I work generally report concerns around relationships, depression, anxiety, complex trauma, and low self-esteem. Through several years of psychodynamic training and extensive time in the consultation room, I have learned how to understand the relationships of my patients -- individuals and couples alike -- by being *in* relationship with my patients, in a safe, contained, and exploratory setting.

My Background and Approach

I am a firm believer that symptoms, experiences, and patterns felt in the present are indelibly rooted in the past. As a therapist, I am keenly interested in learning about patients' early life experiences and the landscape of their relationships -- especially the relationship with oneself. In its ideal form, successful psychotherapy is laid upon the foundation of a caring, co-constructed relationship. I work best with those who are willing to explore their past, remain curious about the present, and can "play" with fantasy, language, and how they experience their inner world. I feel it is my professional duty to observe honestly and ask questions that I feel will advance the work in a therapeutic way. My patients are the experts of their own lives, and I work in each therapy hour to honor the sacred role of being one's therapist. I too, consider myself a "forever student" of psychotherapy and take seriously my continued studies and curiosity about what it means to be human.

Why I am a Good Fit for You

I do not believe that I am in a position to *tell* you that I am a good fit for you, or even that I am a great therapist! That is for you to decide. Nevertheless, I can disclose the following: I am passionate about the process of psychotherapy, including the many ways that I have been trained to listen. I pay close attention to the development of relationships -- including the relationship between patient and therapist -- as a part of the therapeutic process. I also believe that it is my professional duty to have greater confidence in you than you [may] have in yourself. Years of training and clinical experience have informed me of the following: the "process" of psychotherapy is almost always richer than the "outcomes", even when the outcomes are truly great. Psychotherapy, fundamentally, is about goodness-of-fit -- and I am hopeful that we could be a good fit, too. I am happy to consult with you in order to gauge our goodness-of-fit, with the only cost being 20 minutes of your time.
