About My Clients
My clients are people who are looking to find REAL strategies to help manage their eating disorder, anxiety or depression. They are parents, just like you, who are looking for a dedicated professional who can help your family learn TOOLS that work for ending the cycle of compulsive or restrictive eating, out of control emotions, and negative interactions. My clients LIKE to come to therapy because it is a SAFE place to learn and grow!
My Background and Approach
As a therapist for over 25 years, my approach has always been to help people learn SKILLS to understand, manage and/or change their negative habits. Yes, I am a GREAT listener, but I know that it's practical tools for change that you are seeking. My approach to therapy is very collaborative - we work together to help you feel better and to get on and stay on the path toward your goals. I use a combination of DBT, CBT and Mindfulness to help you uncover your thoughts, urges and behaviors and to create lasting change.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Therapy can be intimidating and scary. As a survivor of an eating disorder in my teens and twenties, I know first hand how difficult this process can be. Finding therapists who were warm, caring and interactive was instrumental in my recovery and so this is how I work as well. As a mom of three young adults, I have been on the front lines of my own parenting struggles and understand just how hard it can be. In our practice, Mindsoother Therapy Center, we support the whole family - it's hard for only part of the system to heal.
