I have been an eating disorder specialist for over 25 years. I became a therapist because of my own history of Anorexia and Bulimia and this gives me insider knowledge on what it takes to heal. I utilize a combination of DBT and Mindfulness to help clients understand unhealthy habit patterns and to break them for good! In 2013, I received the distinct honor of being names Social Worker of the Year in New Jersey for my dedication to helping clients in the field of eating disorders.
I help you uncover the thoughts and beliefs that are keeping you stuck in old habits and use mindfulness strategies to get you CENTERED and BALANCED. The goal is for you to learn to tune in to your thoughts and beliefs BEFORE you act on them. This requires practice and we will do this together!
I see every individual as part of a larger whole. What systems are you part of? How does your family function? Are you the bearer of pain and symptoms for your family and, if so, how can we work together to change that. I also work closely with parents to create a strong and healthy boundaries in their families so kids can understand expectations and consequences. This is essential for a thriving family system.
Dialectics stands for two opposing things happening simultaneously. I can be worried AND also have a good day. I can be angry AND gentle. I can not want to do my homework AND do it anyway. By learning how to find the nugget of truth in both sides, you can learn to integrate seemingly opposite beliefs or situations in your life. And DBT teaches you to balance CHANGE and ACCEPTANCE in your life. And, by the way, you don't need to condone or approve of something in order to accept it!
