I use art therapy with my clients where it is all about the creative process, not the product. It engages the mind, body, and spirit connection, using kinesthetic and visual senses to help process emotions that are difficult to verbalize. It can promote such things as more self-awareness, reduce stress, explore emotions, resolve conflict, and more.

Through modalities such as sensorimotor psychotherapy and the creative process, I support clients in gaining awareness of their anxiety through a bottom up approach. In this approach clients are able to identify where the anxiety is being held in the body first, to allow the mind to calm down, and then to sequence through it. And/or to externalize the anxiety to begin to relax the nervous system and be able to experience those overwhelming feelings as more manageable.

I take a client centered approach that involves compassion and non-judgement to really meet my clients where they are at in their grief process, as this process can fluctuate and change daily or even hourly. Art therapy is just one approach I use to help with integration and meaning making by creating a safe space where intense, inexpressible, or complex emotions can be externalized through creative media, allowing clients to process however they need to.

I am trained in sensorimotor psychotherapy using a bottom up approach, focusing on body sensations and not just talking about memories, to work through trauma.

I use mindfulness-based approaches to help clients cultivate present-moment awareness, non-judgmental observation, and self-compassion to manage difficult emotions such as stress or anxiety. Some techniques I use are mindful breathing, body scans, to shift from automatic reactions to a calm, reflective state of "being" rather than "doing".
