About My Clients
I am passionate about working with marginalized communities, in particular, Black, Brown and queer folks. I also work with survivors of sexual trauma, and those navigating issues around attachment, anxiety, trauma, family, work, and dating. I also provide group, couples, and family therapy with adolescents.
My Background and Approach
My goal is to provide a therapeutic space that feels safe enough for you to take risks toward growth while being collaborative, affirming, and reparative. I provide a compassionate space for healing, personal growth, and empowerment. I work with individuals to gain insight into how familial patterns, societal pressures, and childhood wounds influence their mental health and personal relationships. Sessions often focus on deconstructing unhelpful thoughts, reconnecting with your mind and body, and learning new ways of coping. I am trained in EMDR and other trauma modalities along with Attachment-based family therapy, and Emotionally Focused Therapy.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
As a Black Caribbean queer therapist, my approach to therapy is trauma-informed, social-justice oriented and queer-affirming. I am also a scholar and advocate; I care deeply about issues of equality, Black Lives Matter, and the Me too movement. I believe therapy and spirituality can co-exist. Deciding to go to therapy may be a difficult decision due to societal and familial pressures to be strong and independent. However, Engaging in self-care and therapy are acts of self-preservation so that we can better give to nourish our relationships. If you would like to see if we are a good fit, please do not hesitate to reach out for a consultation.
