About My Clients
I help clients gain confidence, guide their own ship, identify strengths & create empowered ideas about themselves; supporting them on their path to cultivating awareness, understanding, agency & possibility. Through a self-directed & collaborative process clients’ access to self-expression, personal values & sense of self are encouraged & developed; opportunities for growth & healing are brought into focus to be explored & experienced, allowing new, satisfying ways of being to emerge!
My Background and Approach
As a counselor I work from a general theory base of Existential Humanistic and Systems Theory; focusing on the dynamics of creativity, mindfulness, and self-awareness within the context of a person’s worldview. My approach is collaborative & strengths-based, utilizing cognitive, experiential, somatic, creative & relational therapies to encourage clients’ abilities to problem solve, navigate modern life, self-comfort & develop their identity. I hold a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology with a specialty in Children & Adolescent Treatment from Lewis & Clark College, as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology. My training in both fields helps me to see both the individual & the bigger systems (family, culture, world, etc.) that they exist within, allowing me to offer my clients a wider perspective & larger framework from which to examine problems & their impact. I became a Board Certified National Counselor in 2011 & have been providing direct services to youth & families since 2003
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe in, support and work towards equal rights, access, and representation, both in my role as a counselor working with clients, and in my personal life. Integrity, accountability are lifelong values for me. I’ve worked with children, adolescents, teens, young adults, established adults & families from a diverse variety of backgrounds, communities, & belief systems; I have experience with issues that span the spectrum of struggles people may face and work with both Macro and Micro levels to dismantle & disrupt systemic injustice & the internalization of the values and beliefs of oppressive systems we all are living within. My work has been done in private practice for over a decade, and elementary, middle & high schools & the juvenile court system the decade prior to that.
