Anxiety can stem from many causes including an invalidating or critical environment, fear of rejection, perfectionism, and a constant sense of danger. I use CBT and DBT techniques to help clients modify ineffective thought patterns and behaviors. I also teach clients tools for calming the uncomfortable bodily sensations that often accompany anxiety. For clients that experience panic, I teach skills for crisis survival and distress tolerance.
Anxiety can stem from many sources – an invalidating or critical family environment, fear of rejection, perfectionism, or a constant sense of impending danger. I use a combination of CBT and DBT techniques to help clients change ineffective thought patterns and calm the uncomfortable bodily sensations that often accompany anxiety. Clients will also learn tools for coping with feelings of crisis and panic.
Adolescence is a time of transition and identity formation. Academic challenges and social pressures can create even more demands. I aim to help teens manage the emotional, behavioral, and physical changes of this life phase. I build a trusting rapport with every teen while facilitating healthy self-expression and teaching emotion regulation skills. Teens will also learn tools for goal-setting, effective communication, and healthier relationships.
I received foundational DBT training through Marsha Linehan's Behavioral Tech. DBT is a cognitive behavioral treatment and is the gold standard for suicidal people and those diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder. While BPD is a highly stigmatized diagnosis, I work to reduce the client's shame. I believe it is a result of early attachment trauma and it can be treated. I am supervised by Dr. Suzanne Wallach, who is comprehensively trained in DBT through The Linehan Institute.
