About My Clients

My goal is to establish a meaningful, trusting alliance while instilling hope in every client. We will work together to identify goals, areas of strength, resilience, and capacity for positive change. I specialize in developmental trauma, anxiety and mood disorders, and borderline personality disorder. I also help clients work through family of origin issues, relationship distress, and identity development.

My Background and Approach

My work is rooted in attachment and psychodynamic principles. By exploring early experiences we can understand how the past may be influencing the present. I work with clients to increase insight, to let go of old patterns, and to make clearer choices in the future. I also use CBT and DBT techniques to improve coping skills and self-efficacy. I help clients develop intrinsic motivation and personal goals to develop a more fulfilling life. When clients experience overwhelming emotions, I teach distress tolerance skills to help them better cope with crisis. We also use mindfulness techniques to create a greater sense of meaning and enjoyment of the present moment. I collaborate with every client and tailor our sessions to best fit each individual’s needs and values. Prior to private practice, I worked in community mental health and research in clinical psychology. I have been involved in many research projects spanning from Columbia University to the University of Southern California.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I am an LGBTQ-affirmative and culturally-sensitive therapist. I have worked clients from diverse backgrounds, facing issues of identity development, acculturation, immigration, and family separation. I serve individuals of all sexual orientations, gender identities, ethnicities, cultures, and religious backgrounds. I believe we all have the internal resources to improve our lives – my job is to help clear the fog that lies between each client and their life worth living. We will work together to identify and modify behaviors that interfere with each client's personal values and goals. I also recognize that we all experience heartache and uncontrollable life circumstances throughout our lives. I help clients hold space for the pain and develop radical acceptance of the things they cannot control.
