About My Clients

There can be unbearable pressure from family, loved ones, and society to act, think, feel, or relate a particular way. This can feel especially true for men who may not feel like they live up to society's expectations of them, leading to depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship issues, and low self-esteem. I work with men who feel "on the outside looking in," whether that be because of high sensitivity, belonging to the queer community, or any trait that feels outside the traditional "man box."

My Background and Approach

My approach is guided by the tenets of relational and narrative approaches to therapy. My primary goal is for the therapy space to be a comfortable and empathic environment where it is safe for clients to explore their authentic selves. In our sessions, we'll work together as partners in re-authoring your story about yourself, and gain insight into pieces of your authentic self that may have been marginalized or neglected, but that can help you heal and grow. For the past 7 years, I have been honing my skills as a counselor, and I am heavily involved in research on the intersections of high sensitivity and gender identity as a professor at SUNY Oswego. In addition, I have taken specialized coursework in narrative and creative approaches to therapy, and I enjoy integrating clients' interests into therapy, whether that be films, books, music, or even astrology! I believe that connecting with creativity can facilitate catharsis and change.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe that most suffering is caused by early narratives we receive from our close relationships, culture, and society that box us in to an identity and a life that is in misalignment with our authentic self. As a highly sensitive, bisexual man, I understand how painful it can be to have your identity ostracized, erased, or misunderstood. It's my hope that by creating a therapeutic relationship with clients that is supportive of authenticity, weirdness, and humor, we can make real change in gaining insight into what you can do to challenge these faulty narratives and empower your authentic self to shine.
