My Background and Approach
My primary theoretical orientation is existentialist, which means that my work with you always focuses back on personal experience and meaning. You are the only person who gets to live in your body, and therefore only you get to make meaning out of your one precious life. This can be both liberating and terrifying! Prior to my career as a therapist, I spent 17 years providing emotional and spiritual support to patients and families in an inpatient hospital setting. I am familiar with grief and anxiety, and I have experience working with families of all formations, ethnicities, and religions.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that every individual is the expert on their own life and that they have within themselves everything they need to be whole and fulfilled. I believe change happens when we have a non-judgmental space to fully explore our experiences without prejudice or expectation. I believe in the resilience of the human spirit and that everyone is doing the best they can. I believe change is always possible from within even when one's circumstances are outside of their control.
