About My Clients

One of the things I really appreciate about my work is how different every day can be. I have had the honor of helping many clients over the years, with many, many different issues and influencing circumstances. Each required their own unique approach, and working clients to identify the plan that may work best has been a highly satisfying challenge throughout my career. I hope to continue working with clients to help them resolve their issues for many years to come.

My Background and Approach

I would say that my approach is to treat sessions as a laboratory, where my clients and I identify issues and associated factors, then decide on a plan of action to take in addressing those issues between that meeting and the next, where we will discuss how things went and adjust the plan accordingly. I find that this approach works best with clients who are motivated to try new things, and who can be involved in developing their own plans of action. When roadblocks emerge, it is often beneficial to identify what is going on beneath the surface. If a client struggles with a curse of action, it can be revealing to get into what has influenced their response to things that they experience. If we can work through a block, often, it can be highly liberating in other areas of their life, as well.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

Broadly, I believe that the role of a therapist is not to judge or condemn a client's thoughts or behaviors, so long as they are not abusive towards themselves or others. And while this seems intuitive, I know that many clients have felt judged, condemned, or persecuted by those they sought for help. I know that it can feel difficult to find someone that really understands what you deal with every day, and I can't often claim to be able to do that, but if you're interested in soliciting supportive feedback from someone with a different point of view, I may be a good fit. I would say that I have fairly broad knowledge of various subsections of the population, and I may ask for clarification. I may challenge you in some areas, but I think it is fair to say that is well-intentioned. I don't think it would be providing value as a counselor if I pretended to have expertise that I don't, or that I think things are good for you if they conflict with your expressed values.
