About My Clients
Anxiety and depression come in many forms, and life events can intensify it. I have a passion for working together with clients seeking relief from major disruptions of their lives - graduation, marriage, divorce, grief/loss, retirement, career changes, school changes, and more. My clients seek to learn new skills to cope in a safe space, but often find the most satisfaction in rediscovering themselves - reflecting and working to align their everyday actions with their actual values.
My Background and Approach
I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor. I've been working as a therapist in private practice for 8 years with emerging adults through retirement age. I previously worked with undergraduate and graduate college students during my clinical training experience at MBI institute in Chicago. I received my M.A. in counseling from Wheaton College in 2016. Although I use CBT, DBT, IFS, and other evidence-based practices in the therapy office, my roots are in psychodynamic, attachment, and insight-oriented work. However, I firmly believe that growth and healing only begin to emerge when built on the foundation of authentic connection in the therapeutic alliance. This is the collaborative journey that I find meaningful - supporting and witnessing the development and discovery of identity that leads to less depression and anxiety, and greater life satisfaction and sense of purpose.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe therapy is about safety and empowerment. It can be hard to find a space to safely process the loneliness of feeling misunderstood, unseen, and disrespected in a culture that quickly marginalizes and invalidates anyone it does not understand. The world of mental health needs advocates who are consistently acknowledging the destructive impact of historical injustice and the trauma of discriminatory practices that contribute to overwhelming inequity. I seek to provide a safe space for critical components of identity to emerge and find healing from un-affirming narratives created by those in places of power and privilege.
