About My Clients
Are you dealing with issues of anxiety, relationships, and self-esteem? Are you a college student, young professional, transitioning professional, in education, medicine, or the helping professions? Working in the creative arts? Retired? (Just to name a few...) My client roster is multifaceted, and your situation, your stressors, your concerns and the ways in which you learn are unique to you. You can learn to understand yourself better and relate to yourself with greater ease and well-being.
My Background and Approach
We will use modalities like cognitive behavioral therapy, drama therapy, mindfulness and self-compassion to inquire into and create positive change. You will learn to understand and shape your nervous system with greater agency; to relate to your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors more effectively; to engage the various parts within you more wisely. One role I tend to emphasize with all of my clients is that of “Choice-Maker.” We may not always be able to control the external circumstances we find ourselves in, but we can learn how to consider what will serve, be open and curious about how we relate to the challenges we face, and explore options for wise action. Remember, you get to choose how to define yourself, to choose who you are, to choose how you want to show up in life. I will draw upon my 15+ years of experience to help you find that path toward a more positive self-definition and the well-being you deserve. I look forward to hearing from you. Step by step. You've got this!
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
With a background in theater and drama therapy, I have found it incredibly helpful to consider a healthy functioning psyche as one which can easily revolve between the roles (and/or parts) needed for any given occasion without getting stuck in one role or another due to past conditioning and patterns. Learning how to identify "maladaptive" roles and the ways that we've been "hijacked" by these particular roles can absolutely give us a sense of agency. We develop the ability to bring self-compassion and inquiry to how these roles are "protecting" us. We can befriend them and explore ways to transform them. I had one client who was working with Performance Anxiety. Her fear and stage fright when being asked to get up and present in front of a group of people would paralyze her. As we worked together, she was able to befriend her "fear". She was able to dialogue with her fear and explore creative, healthy ways to take her fear by the hand and "show up" in her life more skillfully.
