About My Clients
I have previously worked with undeserved populations; domestic violence/sexual assault survivors, veterans, the homeless, or those being released form incarceration or hospitalization. My passion is working with the individuals that society has told have no worth. I envision helping them turn a negative situation into a positive for themselves, all while finding a way to pay it forward so that a community of helping and healing can be built by those who feel the most ignored and victimized.
My Background and Approach
I received a Masters of Arts Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Lenoir Rhyne University; graduating in December of 2017. I received my undergraduate Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from Kaplan University; graduating in May of 2013. I have successfully met the professional counseling standards established by the North Carolina Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and am recognized as a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC), certificate number 997672. I am provisionally licensed as a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPC-A), license number A13970. I am also provisionally licensed as a Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist Associate (LCAS-A), license number LCAS-24301. My overall approach to counseling is integrated and pulls from several different theoretical orientations. I currently align the most with Constructivism, but I may in incorporate ideals derived from Existentialism, Feministic, and Client-centered approaches.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Some of our sessions many be very intimate and even uncomfortable, but self-awareness and self-acceptance are not always easy to achieve. You will be asked to push yourself to overcome any obstacles and to trust me and yourself throughout this process. I believe that through the development of a strong and trusting therapeutic relationship we can focus on your perspective, to facilitate self-exploration, personal growth, and healing. My definition of mental health is the ability to grow, adapt, and prosper in spite of adversity, and I believe anyone who is willing to push through the therapeutic process can achieve the quality of life they are hoping to attain. Our society is filled with people who feel “less than” because they are different or are struggling, but it is my belief that we should celebrate the differences rather than fear or hide them. It is our struggle that defines our purpose. I look forward to helping those who feel "cracked" let their own light shine through.
