About My Clients
I work with people experiencing early-stage memory loss or mild cognitive impairment (MCI), as well as partners, caregivers, adult children, close friends, and chosen family. Clients may be navigating grief, anxiety, uncertainty, shifting roles, caregiver burnout, changing intimacy, family conflict, or concerns about identity and independence. Therapy offers a compassionate space to process complex emotions, strengthen communication, and find meaningful ways to stay connected through change.
My Background and Approach
I obtained my Master’s in Social Work from the University of Denver in 2017 and have since worked closely with the Memory Loss and Caregiver populations to navigate the everyday challenges of evolving needs and abilities. I received specialized training through the Alzheimer’s Association, where I spent more than three years as a Care Consultant supporting people living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. I also worked closely with a wide range of caregivers, including spouses, adult children, and professional caregivers. My understanding of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and dementia is also personal. My own family’s experience with Dementia and Caregiving has given me insight into the complexities of changing relationships, evolving responsibilities, and caring for a loved one while trying to care for ourselves. My approach is person-centered and I draw from a range of therapeutic approaches to provide individualized care tailored to each client.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Being a Latina therapist from the Dominican Republic and then pursuing my undergraduate degrees in Sociology and Ethnic Studies, my lens is one of social justice and equity. I am also a member of the LGBTQIA+ community and have experienced Mild Cognitive Impairment myself. The intersection of my identities has instilled a deep understanding of the need for quality mental healthcare for all people in a space that is accessible, safe, and nonjudgmental. I approach each client with unconditional positive regard and work with my supervisor to ensure that I am constantly growing, learning, and improving my practice as a therapist for each one of you.
