Hi, I'm Cristal and I have over 20 years of experience working with adults, adolescents, and families experiencing a vast range of issues.
Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Colorado
The role a family plays in our life is monumental, and a healthy and supportive family is invaluable. I utilize family systems theory in working with families to improve relationships, increase communication, reduce conflict, set appropriate boundaries, and help create a happier and healthier family system. I teach parents effective strategies to create positive behavior changes with all family members. Experiencing family issues? Let's get started.
I have been working with clients experiencing PTSD since 2004, when I became certified in Level 2 Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). This has been a miraculous treatment modality that has brought much sought after peace and resolution for clients over the past 18 years. Clients are incredibly grateful for this life-changing treatment and experience an incredible amount of relief after their trauma has been processed and resolved. It's almost like magic!
For the past nine years, I have lived and worked overseas providing mental health therapy to adolescents and families on military bases. I was embedded in the schools to enable the 6th to 12th grade students convenient access to mental health therapy. Some of common issues I treated included self-harm, suicidal ideation, anxiety, depression, family conflict, school-related stress, social and relationship issues, bullying, life transitions, and self-esteem. I love working with this age group!
I am a Level 2 Certified EMDR therapist and have found this to be a highly effective treatment with numerous clients over the past 14 years . In addition to treating trauma, EMDR is successful at treating a range of anxiety issues, as well as enhancing performance. EMDR enhances physiological sensations and installs visualizations of success in a variety of life situations and can reduce fear of failure, boost confidence, and improve life transitions.
I have been using DBT successfully with clients since 2004 and find these skills to be incredibly useful for everyone. DBT is a skill-based modality and is broken down into the following four areas: mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, distress tolerance, and emotional regulation. Once mastered, these skills can be utilized continuously throughout your life - a total game changer!
I often utilize CBT in conjunction with other modalities and treatment approaches. CBT is an evidenced-based structured goal-oriented modality that is effective at treating a variety of issues including depression, anxiety, addiction, grief and loss, self-limiting beliefs, and much more. CBT provides strategies to help clients to change thought patterns, which influences behavior change and impacts emotional responses. It puts you in the driver's seat!
