About My Clients
I am most passionate about working with adolescents and women who have experienced trauma. I have specialized training in helping survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, and stalking. I also enjoy helping people with their mental health challenges, relationship and family conflicts, stress/adjustments, understanding themselves more, and making changes. I have experience working with children, adolescents, and adults as individuals, couples, and families.
My Background and Approach
I'm a licensed social worker (LSW). I received my Bachelor's of Science with a major in Criminal Justice and minor in Psychology from Indiana University South Bend. I then received my Master's of Social Work with a concentration in mental health and addictions there too. I started my social work journey volunteering (then working) at a crisis center that helps survivors of sexual assault/abuse, domestic violence, and stalking. I did this in some form for about four years, discovering my passion there. During my Master's Program, I had my first practicum (internship) in a community mental health setting and my second one doing trauma social work at a hospital. Before starting at with Firm Foundation Counseling, I worked as a therapist for about two years at a non-profit agency, helping families involved with Department of Child Services and Juvenile Probation. I have training in multiple evidence-based practices and operate from a trauma-informed, open, and collaborative perspective.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Family is my number one value; I have a little one and husband at home that I love spending time with when I'm not working. I am an animal lover too, I have four cats! Being able to connect with nature, my spirituality, and my emotions while striving for self-love, acceptance, and inner peace is something that I believe is extremely important. Feeling empowered to make our own choices, set boundaries, and stand up for what we believe in is key. In my own life I try my best to practice this and I like to walk alongside my clients to help promote this in their lives too. I am mindful about treating everyone with kindness, respect, and compassion. I believe everyone has value and is capable of changing if they really want to. Self-care and hobbies are part of a balanced life/important too! I enjoy spending time with family and friends, going on walks, exploring new places, listening to podcasts, playing games, and watching TV.
