About My Clients
My clients have usually been to a therapist or two before they find me. They might be labeled as "gifted" and struggle to stay focused, get things done, respond to limits appropriately, or manage their feelings in healthy ways. They benefit from a therapist who doesn’t need to be the expert, is okay switching up strategies to make them unique to each client, and is able to work directly with their parents to help find ways to support the family and allow their child to be more successful.
My Background and Approach
In therapy, we do a lot of talking but it’s combined with play, connection, movement, creation and laughter. When working with young children (as young as 4), I use play therapy and work closely with parents, providing support and helping you to learn skills to manage behavior and build upon your child’s strength. With older children, teens and young adults, I allow the client to choose from a variety of therapeutic approaches based on the session and how they are feeling. Some days we will just talk, others we can do yoga or art modalities. I love having a therapy dog with me in sessions, and I am pretty sure sometimes clients come just to see Franklin and the therapy is a bonus.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I am wildly passionate about autonomy and justice. I am personally and professionally interested and involved in many advocacy efforts including efforts related to the neurodiversity movement, education reform, LGBTQIA+ rights including the rights of young people in the LGBT community, ending the war on drugs, women’s reproductive rights, access to mental health care, interstate provision of Social Work, and insurance reform.
