About My Clients
My clients are teens and adults seeking therapy for eating disorders, disordered eating, body image concerns, anxiety, grief, identity and life transitions. Many want evidence based care that makes room for spiritual exploration and the deeply human parts of healing. They are looking for an affirming, weight-inclusive space where they are seen as a whole person. Together, we find the middle: where firm care and compassion, structure and freedom, acceptance and change can coexist.
My Background and Approach
I’m Courtney Dowdell, a Licensed Creative Arts Therapist (LCAT), Registered Drama Therapist and Board Certified Trainer (RDT/BCT), and Certified Eating Disorder Specialist (CEDS), with 15+ years of clinical experience treating eating disorders, disordered eating, body image, anxiety, grief, identity, and life transitions. My approach blends evidence based psychotherapy and eating disorder treatment with creative, embodied, and relational practices. Therapy with me is deeply human and collaborative. I take the time to know you as a whole person. I offer warmth and compassion alongside steadiness, honesty, and firm care when needed. For clients who want it, our work can make room for spirituality, meaning, and questions of the self. Together, we will build a path toward recovery grounded in clinical knowledge and shaped around who you are.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe people heal when they are met with curiosity, dignity, and truth rather than shame. My work is weight-inclusive and aligned with Health at Every Size® principles. I understand eating disorders and distress within the contexts of identity, relationships, culture, oppression, access, and lived experience. Social justice is inseparable from mental health care. I create an affirming space where clients can explore their inner worlds and the systems that have shaped them. My background in forensic work strengthened my ability to hold complexity and recognize that compassion and accountability can coexist. Healing is not solely individual. Connection, creativity, and community help us remember who we are. Therapy can be a place to honor what helped you survive while making room for something new.
