About My Clients
I work with children, adolescents, and adults who may have noticed something isn't working, feel lost, or have an idea of where you want to be but struggle to identify the steps to get there. As we take a step back to look at the full picture of your life, we can start to notice what might be getting in the way -- core beliefs, fear of rejection and uncertainty, perfectionism, nervous system responses or past relationships that have impacted how you see yourself, others and the world.
My Background and Approach
I use a polyvagal informed, existential and relational approach to help you understand how your emotions and nervous system interact. Through talk, play and expressive art therapies we can learn what stories we have been carrying and their impact on how we show up without banishing parts of yourself that need to be heard and served a function in the past. By assessing our values, what change you want to see, we can develop a plan to experiment with new ways of being and relating to ourselves, family and peers. My goal as a therapist is to provide a warm, playful, authentic and curious presence in a comforting environment for people to learn more about themselves, their sensory and relational needs. Through this process we can recognize what unmet needs are showing up and what adjustments will create a more balanced life going forward.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I return to the idea shared by many thought leaders and writers: What does it mean to be well-adjusted in a sick society? We live in a dehumanizing and exploitative world that relies on systems of oppression and control to maintain power and domination. In a world that that devalues care and maintenance, I hope to provide care with an understanding that systems were designed to oppress, numb and distract us from pain so others can make a profit. I feel like my purpose on this earth is to be with and hold people's stories, not turning away from the heartbreak, suffering, darkness, and endings we must endure as humans. In my practice I like to use humor, books, art, symbolic imagery and creative practices that reflect what it means to be human while shedding levity on the mystical nature and heaviness of life. You deserve autonomy, care, rest, joy and connection.
