About My Clients

The alarm goes off Another day… All you want to do is stay in bed and not face another day of being the responsible, high-performing one, while feeling like you are coming apart inside. You get up, suck down coffee, and look at your to-do list. Your heart starts pounding, your palms are clammy, you struggle to catch a breath. There is a reality in which you are at peace. You feel valued and loved, are doing things you used to love, and can care for yourself first. It's a surreal feeling.

My Background and Approach

Finding meaning in life is not always straightforward. My life path has been more like a ball of yarn than a straight line (I’m guessing you find yourself in the same place). As an overly anxious, eager to please youngster, I followed the path that my parents wanted for me (to become an academic), but I never felt like I was in the right place or following my passion. My husband is a successful academic, so I followed him around the world but never focused on what I wanted or being my genuine self. I learned over this time (of denying who I was to please others) that my choices made me miserable – even if they were well-meaning. I now know to put myself first and be my true self, and this is what I teach my clients to do. Finally, I live a genuine, no-bullshit existence, and I am content. My experience and personal growth… …allow me to bring unique training, experience, and grit to my practice with you!

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe in a strengths-based, person-centered approach akin to the work of Carl Rogers. “People are just as wonderful as sunsets if you let them be. When I look at a sunset, I don’t find myself saying, “Soften the orange a bit on the right hand corner.” I don’t try to control a sunset. I watch with awe as it unfolds.” – Carl R. Rogers, A Way of Being. I also pull in evidence-based treatments that are appropriate to the client. I believe we are all affected by intersectionality (see the work of Kimberlé Crenshaw), and I bring attention to intersectional identities in treatment. I offer Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing.
