Being a member of the LGBT community and also someone with an academic background in gender and LGBT issues, I understand both the personal and societal toll having a marginalized sexuality or gender identity can take on you. Despite this, I take a strengths-based perspective to highlight the available resiliency and community resources available to those in the LGBT community.
Most clientele I am seeing are going through major life transitions - whether it's finishing school, moving states, losing a job, or dealing with empty nest syndrome and not knowing what step to take next. These times can be challenging and lonely, and I work with individuals to build their social resources and help them create their own path to explore this next stage in their life.
I utilize a Cognitive Behavioral approach to treating depression and the negative thought cycles we find ourselves in. I have trauma-focused and informed training in CBT which will be available if necessary.
