Our brains are built through repeated interactions with our earliest relationships and environments, and can be changed through the experience of a new relationship: therapy. This means I consider our work in session as a chance to learn new ways of experiencing your emotions that lead to joy-filled life.
Anxiety is a fire alarm. It's often a signal that something is wrong, something in our world feels scary. We all feel anxiety at moments in our lives, but often people come in to therapy when something else happens: they can't seem to stop. They can't slow down or control their heart or their restlessness. Our goal is to deepen our understanding and learn new ways of regulating anxiety together in session, so you are no longer trapped by anxiety, but empowered to live your best life.
Often when we're in a "panic attack", our bodies are responding disproportionately to the current situation. Yet there's a good reason for this. Even without our being aware, our minds create meanings from past circumstances that impact our present day-to-day feelings. I want to help you reduce moments of panic by (counterintuitively) bringing those moments more into our sessions together. When the panic is cared for - not pushed down - I see clients improve.
Every couple has a life of it's own. Often the patterns of conflict and disengagement are bigger and more powerful than one person. This is why I help couples not only identify their patterns, but learn new ways of regulating and managing their emotions together... in session.
