About My Clients
My clients vary in ages and stages of life. I see adults and kids. Many have anxiety, depression, trouble setting boundaries, difficulty managing neurodiverty and self-acceptance. Others are trying to navigate parenting and need support with guidance around developmental psychology. Lately I'm seeing more women going through the challenges of menopause that impact mood, sleep and body changes. Some clients come in when facing transitions and finding their new reality to be quite difficult.
My Background and Approach
Before going into private practice in 2005, I spent years working in non-profit and hospital settings. I am an Eating Disorder Specialist and a Child Mental Health Specialist in addition to being a Licensed Clinical Socisl Worker. I enjoy helping clients understand why they behave the way they do when it's ultimately destructive. I approach people with an open heart, compassion and a deep desire to understand where they are coming from. I use a variety of therapeutic modalities and try to find things that resonate for each person. I can offer simple tools to calm growing anxiety, and an understanding of how negative self-talk impacts all parts of our being. I can offer techniques to take home as well as ways to gain insight in the office.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I grew up in a large family where "teasing" was the norm, that as a 4 year-old I believed I was less than. This made me mad, and I fought back. I am someone who will stand up for others, the environment and animals. My husband and I donate money yearly to many organizations. I was a volunteer with the Crisis Clinic the year after I graduated from my Masters program and went on to work there when they needed me. It was through volunteering that I began my of sailing. To be on the water one not need have a boat. Instead volunteering to be crew on a boat that races. There can be intense situations, and as a woman of a certain size and age there are times I have to stand up for myself. Even with 10 years experience I can have some guy try to take over my job. Diplomacy is important as we will all be on the boat for hours during a race. I have learned to say back off firmly but politely. My husband and I participate in marches against our current administration and to save trees
