About My Clients
Colleen's clients come from all walks of life and range in age from children, to adolescents, to adults. Colleen's clients are often struggling with mood disorders like depression and anxiety, grieving a loss or death of a loved one, coping with relationship struggles, or seeking to improve self esteem. Clients work alongside Colleen to tackle the issues that are important to them, always feeling supported and reassured that they are not alone in their counseling journey.
My Background and Approach
I utilize an abundance of therapeutic tools and approaches. This is because I realize all clients are unique and as such, my approach must be equally unique. I believe in concrete approaches to therapy, meaning I provide real tools clients can practice and use outside of the session. I operate from a positive psychology framework and believe that all people have strengths regardless of where they find themselves when they come to counseling. I incorporate mindfulness approaches in therapy, I focus on getting familiar with the signs and signals your body sends when you're feeling anxious/overwhelmed/depressed, and I encourage clients to use this time to vent and sort through their thoughts and feelings. I am credentialed as a Trauma-Focused CBT provider, meaning I approach therapy through a trauma-focused lens. I have certifications in mindfulness therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) therapy. This is an evidence-based approach which has proven to be effective.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that clients won't care how much you know until they know how much you care. I believe that we all have strengths. Furthermore, I believe that we all can overcome our obstacles and many times what we need in order to do that is a supportive, safe space and an empathetic, invested therapist. On a personal note, I am a liberal minded person, an LGBTQ ally, and an active supporter of various animal rescue agencies in Arizona. I am also a part time instructor for the graduate program in Arizona State University's School of Social Work. I enjoy the outdoors, my rescue dogs, and sports of all kinds.
