About My Clients
I primarily work with clients struggling with work, school, relationship, or other adjustment issues. Nine years of high school counseling experience and five years of volunteer experience on a crisis hotline allow me to connect best to young adults and parents whose primary concern is their children's mental health and well-being. I have a particular interest in supporting those struggling to find fulfillment in their lives as well as individuals struggling to support family members.
My Background and Approach
The counseling process begins with a comprehensive intake where you (the client) have the opportunity to share your background, mental health history, and goals for the counseling process. From there, we will engage in "talk therapy" that will be guided by important questions including: What do I want? What am I doing to get what I want? This counseling approach is called Reality Therapy and is rooted in the idea that all people have the power within them to improve their lives.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Answering many calls from the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline as a crisis hotline volunteer, I realized the importance of human connection. Most often callers weren't looking for advice but simply wanted to be heard. Sometimes saying what you think, feel and want out loud and hearing it played back without judgment provides individuals with the clarity they need to move forward.
