About My Clients
My clients are often seeking to understand and overcome traumas that impede their ability to feel confident, communicate effectively, and lead healthy, satisfying lives. Many attempt to cope with low self-esteem, perfectionism or felt lack of control by "preparing" themselves for what could possibly go wrong. Several also become preoccupied with food, weight, or body image in an attempt to gain a sense of control, comfort, or to avoid difficult or overwhelming emotions.
My Background and Approach
My approach is grounded in psychodynamic theory. I believe that healing occurs through the establishment of a trusted therapeutic relationship, increased self-awareness, healthy emotional expression and meaningful relationships. In helping patients gain greater self understanding, I empower them to break away from the cycles that no longer serve them and make choices that enable them to lead more satisfying and meaningful lives. Meeting patients with warmth, curiosity, and empathy I foster an environment in which they can explore, process and heal from the past, freeing them up to live more fully in the present. In addition to reducing unwanted symptoms, I emphasize increasing self-compassion so that my patients are better able to face life's challenges with flexibility and grace. I have significant experience in providing evidence-based and culturally-informed interventions. For more information about my experience and training visit my website at drclairefoster.com.
