About My Clients

Many of my clients come to therapy when grief, illness, trauma, anxiety, or a major life change has made everything feel too heavy to carry alone. You may feel exhausted from holding it together, anxious in your body, mourning the life you expected, or misunderstood by others. I work especially well with adults navigating loss, chronic illness or disability, medical trauma, caregiving, relationship changes, and neurodivergence.

My Background and Approach

I am an Irish-born LICSW and the owner of Anam Solas Therapy LLC, with a background in hospital social work, including intensive care, dialysis, primary care, emergency care, and palliative and end-of-life settings. That work deeply shaped how I understand grief, illness, caregiving, medical trauma, and the ways the body can carry what we have been through. My approach is warm, direct, trauma-informed, and grounded in real life. I draw from relational, somatic, parts-based, CBT, DBT, attachment, and acceptance-based work, but I am less focused on labels and more focused on what is actually useful and supportive for you. Therapy with me is not about performing or getting it “right.” We move at a pace that respects your capacity, while helping you understand your patterns, feel more steady in your body, and build a life that feels more manageable and more like your own.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe people make sense in the context of what they have lived through. Many of the things people judge themselves for began as ways of getting through something difficult. I do not see symptoms as personal failures, and I do not believe healing means becoming untouched by what happened. I value honesty, warmth, curiosity, and therapy that feels real and human. I am LGBTQIA+ affirming, neurodiversity affirming, disability affirming, and committed to respecting each person’s identity, culture, body, relationships, and lived experience. As an Irish immigrant, I understand some of the complexity of belonging, family loyalty, identity, and building a life far from home. I care deeply about grief, chronic illness, medical trauma, reproductive loss, and the ways people are often expected to carry painful experiences quietly. Therapy should be a place where you do not have to minimize what you are going through, defend your needs, or prove why something has affected you so deeply.
