About My Clients
"Uhm, that's not normal," said by a friend, is often when you realize you glossed over a few toxic or traumatic things in your life. Realizing your lived reality, whether it be your childhood, your relationships, your experience entering motherhood, is markedly different than "the norm" can be jarring but you're not alone. I can help you untangle the trauma and emotions from your past. We can shift your present to heal the legacy of your experiences, all while loving and nurturing who you are.
My Background and Approach
Therapy looks a bit different for everyone. Across the board, my therapy is transparent, collaborative, and empowering. My job is to understand you, hold space, find blind spots, help you heal and grow. Most important, my job is to work myself out of a job. I want you to be able to use the information, tools, and insights we create in therapy for years to come. I function from a Feminist Counseling prospective using additional experience and training in Adlerian and Internal Family Systems therapy. I am EMDR trained and use it (when indicated) in adjunct to more traditional trauma work. I have additional training working in domestic violence and personality disorders. I hold a soft spot in my heart for helping the adult children or partners of individuals with personality disorders and other mental health concerns. Often, treatment includes exploration of your relationships and coping patterns in an effort to allow you to consciously choose the approaches that suit your adult self.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Getting out from under trauma is hard work; It's brave and vulnerable work. I know that doesn't sound like a lark, and sometimes it's not, but it's the best way I know for someone to find themselves. It's the road that leads back to your center. To do work like that, you need a safe space. In my office, you can love who you love, use the pronouns that show us what the inside of your heart looks like, and question everything (including me!). Nothing is too sacred or off limits to explore. All bodies, cultures, and paces of therapy are welcome. If we can identify your values and help you live by them, we can relieve so much stress and pressure. If we can help you swap things that hurt for things that make you free the possibilities are limitless. There's a lot of right ways to do therapy, and if mine is a good fit for you, you can bring your big feelings, your lunch, your creative uses of the F-word, whatever you need to get in the door and back to your whole and authentic self.
