About My Clients
I specialize in romantic relationship concerns including therapy for infidelity, sex and intimacy, non-monogamy, individual and couples therapy with a focus on rebuilding connection, communication, and conflict management skills. My clients are high-functioning, motivated, and committed to making changes in their love life and I love providing them with tools and techniques so that they can reach their potential and maintain gains even after they complete therapy.
My Background and Approach
I am an AASECT Certified Sex Therapist and graduated summa cum laude from UNC Chapel Hill with a degree in Psychology and with highest honors from Oakland University with a masters in counseling and specialization in couples therapy. In 2009, I worked at the Anna Freud Centre in London, UK with an emphasis on attachment in relationships and have completed more than 60 trainings in couples and relationships. My post-graduate education in sex therapy is from the University of Michigan and I am a certified infidelity recovery therapist from Beyond Affairs Network. I have extensive training in couples and relationship therapy including Level 3 of the Gottman Method and both levels of Emotionally Focused Therapy as well as work with polyamory/ENM. I value continuing education and collaboration with experts in the field including Esther Perel, the Gottmans, Sue Johnson, and more. I have a background in clinical research which assists me in teaching evidence-based techniques to my clients.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
When I started Affinity Counseling Group, I wanted to do something different. I wanted my practice to reflect my unique skills and insights with an emphasis on evidence based treatments for couples and individuals with sex and relationship-related concerns only. I don’t treat children or substance abuse or individuals with severe mental health concerns... I refer those clients to specialized therapists in those fields because I believe GOOD therapy comes from being good at a few things, not all things. The field of psychology is constantly evolving so I focus on reading books, articles, and training with some of the world-leaders in the field of relationship and sex therapy. I am proud to say I’m a lifelong learner and see the benefits in my therapy sessions. I enjoy hearing how well my clients are doing and seeing their progress in treatment. I am so glad you are here.
