My Background and Approach
I have a background in family, adult and adolescent work. I received my master's degree in social work from New York University Silver School of Social Work and my bachelor's degree in Sociology from San Francisco State University. My therapeutic career started teaching a computer literacy course for adults diagnosed with mental illness interested in re-entry to the workforce. I relocated to New York in 2011 to pursue my graduate degree where I completed my first year internship at transfer high school with at-risk youth in Manhattan's lower east side. My second year internship I interned at New York State Psychiatric Eating Disorder Inpatient Unit working where my work focused on treating individuals (identified patient) and their families. I transitioned to working with adults in a community mental health setting who struggled with active addiction, co-occuring and often unmanaged health (Physical and Mental) issues including HIV/AIDS, impulse control disorders, anxiety & depression.
