About My Clients
I work best with people who are looking for authentic, in-the-moment, process-oriented therapy rather than manualized/prescribed/detached and non-relational therapeutic styles. People who want to have somewhere to be real, with another human being; safe to explore and feel what they need to feel, think what they need to think, talk about what they need to talk about, and be who they need to be.
My Background and Approach
My approach is primarily relational and Gestalt-based, which means I believe real healing happens through authentic, empathic human connection. We will work together to increase awareness of your thoughts, feelings and relationships, and patterns of relating with others, including yourself. This will allow you the opportunity to overcome barriers, access needed support, and grow and change in whatever way you see fit. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with more than twenty years of experience helping adults and young adults/late teens in areas including: relationships, communication, depression, anxiety, parenting, substance abuse, creative struggles, anger/stress management, and life transitions (to/from college, new parent, etc.) Because every person’s journey is unique, I also may integrate tools from cognitive-behavioral therapy, psychodynamic therapy, motivational interviewing, and mindfulness to best support your needs and strengths.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
In my work, I believe in attending to the whole field of human existence, including, but not limited to: culture, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, race, age, socioeconomics, spirituality, religion, and belief systems. I have been lucky enough practicing in Los Angeles for so many years to have worked with such a diverse range of humans. So many people of various occupations, levels of education, physical and mental abilities, health challenges, diagnoses, immigration stories, coming-out stories, family histories, creative outputs, and life experiences. Even Giants fans. And people who don't like books. (Non-judgmental space Chris, NON-judgmental...okay, got it. Sorry.) The huge range of humans I've been able to be in the room with enrich my work, and my whole being. Even the ones who don't like Martin Scorsese movies.
