About My Clients

Typical clients include adults seeking relief and resolution about emotional, psychological, and interpersonal struggles in their daily lives. Presenting issues include depression, a lack of life-purpose, stress and anxiety complaints, and traumatic issues, the latter including what is increasingly known as "complex" trauma. Complex trauma often refers to neglectful and/or abusive family relationships growing up including having an emotionally immature, if not narcissistic, parent.

My Background and Approach

My background includes an undergraduate education at Long Island University (New York) with a major in Psychology. For my graduate school education/training I attended the Illinois School of Professional Psychology in Chicago. I have worked in major cities (both Chicago, Illinois and Kansas City, Missouri) and in rural Southwest Missouri (Nevada, Missouri and surrounding areas). My approach tends to be client-centered and I believe clients possess many of the answers to their particular struggles. I utilize an integrative approach in helping clients come to such answers and solve personal issues. At times, this approach is negotiating in nature and I appreciate the need to provide helpful information to clients when such information may be lacking. Overall, It means a lot to me to help others. Please refer to my website, psylintherapykc.com, for more information about my background and therapeutic approach.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

A primary belief I hold is the significance of the individual as a person. I strive to relate and respect others as persons in their own right. The golden rule definitely speaks to me to treat others as I wish to be treated. Another belief: It seems to me that so much of what people do and think about seems to be time and energy lost (e.g., keeping up with the "Joneses" on Facebook). I'm really motivated to help clients make their lives count--based on their own values, beliefs, and callings--irrespective of what popular society and community might convey as important in how to live. A final personal belief I wish to note: the importance of being self-caring. I understand that many would interpret such a belief as being selfish--though I believe it is just the opposite. It strikes me that as a person becomes more genuinely self-caring --for who he/she truly is--the more caring he/she can be for others
