About My Clients
I have considerable experience with K-12 students in the school setting, parenting and marital challenges, family transitions/changes such as adoption or loss of child custody, family preservation, school difficulties, (academic and emotional) self-esteem, social skills, coping skills, autism spectrum disorder, attention deficit disorder, multicultural issues, inequality in the work setting, sexual identity/LGBTQ+, oppositional defiance, anger management, grief, anxiety, PTSD, and depression.
My Background and Approach
My approach to mental health is to explore social and emotional functioning by assessing current obstacles and working with individuals to help rule out possible organic medical conditions that could present themselves as mental health challenges. Family support systems have always played a central role in my life due to having accessible counselors at work during adolescence. I learned early that emotional scars counted and if not addressed, they can negatively impact the trajectory of one’s entire life span, post exposure to painful and abusive circumstances. Witnessing the healing powers of counseling convinced me that it was imperative that I extended myself to help mend the lives of those in need.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Today I can say with great certainty that we should all respond to our mental health needs as quickly as we would to our physical health due to the steps and time required to help create and maintain a balanced you. If there is ever a justifiable time for an individual to treat themselves, the time is now.
