About My Clients
My clients want to be stronger in themselves- they want to create a loving relationship with themselves and other people in their lives. My clients are open to examining the dark parts of their pain because they know that through therapy we can create empowerment from the pain. Clients seeking to understand and heal their racial identity are welcome for this work.
My Background and Approach
I am a Marriage and Family Therapist who recognizes the importance of family and friend relationships, connections to cultural and racial communities, and the feeling of belonging in our surroundings. These factors impact the personal issues we face, such as low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, conflict with family or partner, frustration, communication issues, or imposter syndrome. Everyone has a story which is their own truth. My job is helping you strengthen your own story that is true to you and empowers you to live your life vibrantly. As an Asian-American, I have personal experience with bicultural issues and living authentically as an ethnic minority/BIPOC. I have had extensive clinical experiences working specifically with Black/Latino populations. I don't impose my personal experience on you, but I use my understanding as BIPOC to support you in empowering yourself in a BIPOC identity.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I am a feminist, but believe it's important to support men in heterosexual relationships with transitioning to the egalitarian relationships that women want now. I am an anti-racist therapist who believes in being with gentle with White people who are adjusting to a new racial climate. Lifting everyone up in our society means providing gentle guidance. It means recognizing everyone has been a victim in systemic oppression. I respect traditions, but ultimately honor what is functional currently for the client and the couple relationship. I believe in every person, they have the inner resources to lead them to happiness, but often they need help recognizing that they are their own strength.
