About My Clients

My clinical interests largely center around body-related issues, life transitions, anxiety, and depression. Body-related issues may include strained relationships with food and exercise, obsessive thoughts about body image, and sexual exploration, dysfunction, and compulsivity. I also provide premarital counseling to couples of all gender + sexual identities. Additionally, as a classically trained musician, I am uniquely qualified to work with concerns surrounding careers in the performing arts.

My Background and Approach

I have a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of North Texas and experience working in university and outpatient private practice treating adults, couples, and groups. I value a balanced approach in the counseling room. You can expect me to show up as an authentic person while also utilizing evidence-based strategies like cognitive behavioral therapy and Gottman-informed approaches. I often incorporate science-based psychoeducation to help make sense of past experiences like trauma and to teach skills such as emotional regulation and behavioral changes. I believe that therapy is most effective when clients learn coping mechanisms to alter how they respond to present stressors, while also processing their past and understanding how their symptoms came to be. In other words, I treat both the symptoms and their root causes to give my clients tangible skills and valuable insight.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I recognize the impact of racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, and fatphobia on the lived experiences of my clients. As such, I do not pathologize stress responses to these societal realities. You can expect me to acknowledge any power or privilege differentials in the therapeutic relationship. I strive to have an understanding of the lived experience of minority/marginalized groups so that clients in those groups do not feel a burden to educate me; however, I also approach each relationship with humility and gentle curiosity about unique individual experiences and identities. I practice from a Health at Every Size and feminist lens.
