My Background and Approach
In my time as a counselor, I have provided therapy and case management in schools, psychiatric hospitals, homes, and assisted living facilities. More recently, I have provided short-term counseling to tech industry employees through an Employee Assistance Program. I have deeply enjoyed, and been profoundly changed by, the opportunities to work in such varied, intimate, and challenging contexts. In these settings, I learned assessment tools, crisis response, skill-building techniques, and the art of working in a family system. Most importantly, I learned to be with someone in their pain, grief, confusion, or despair. This blend of symptom management, insight-building, and presence-offering is what defines my work.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
My passion for well-being began as an educator and caregiver throughout college and graduate school. I grew to love teaching as a tutor to students of various ages, from young children to college athletes. During graduate school, I began providing in-home care for older adults, as well as partnering closely with their families, striving to provide support that fostered dignity, autonomy, and respect. I have walked through the dying process with clients, a deep honor and sacred time for me as their witness. These experiences prepared me well for growing comfort with the breadth of experiences we may face throughout our lifetime.
