About My Clients

With over 17 years of experience, I have worked to help many people overcome life challenges related to depression, anxiety/stress management, self-confidence, family/relationship concerns, health and life transitions. I believe that we are each the expert on ourselves and I see my role as assisting each client with discovering what is ailing them and working together to figure out the best way to address it. I have specialized training working with veterans and women of color.

My Background and Approach

I have worked with veterans, college students, adults in community counseling settings as well as in an anxiety disorders treatment center. I additionally hold certifications in Prolonged Exposure, Cognitive Processing Therapy and Problem Solving Therapy. I work with clients addressing various life transitions, depression, anxiety and their impact on family and other important relationships. I begin with identifying key concerns and creating related SMART goals. Clients typically report that talking about their concerns in our initial sessions is a weight lifted, with steady improvement of symptoms as we tackle identified goals and explore history. Clients can expect to leave sessions feeling heard, supported and empowered. While I lean towards a mostly supportive stance, I will also offer gentle nudges when needed and permitted to help move things along in the desired direction. Clients can also expect psychoeducation where warranted to deepen understanding of their experience.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

My passion for mental health developed from personal experiences with family members and friends dealing with varying levels of mental health symptoms during my formative years. This curiosity and desire to help evolved into a career passion where the reward is helping others to live their healthiest lives. I believe that mental health is a spectrum and that our position on this spectrum shifts throughout the course of life for a variety of reasons. I believe that it takes great strength to ask for help when needed. That said, I am aware of the stigma against mental health treatment, particularly within my own community. I am honored to be an at times unexpected face representing mental health care. Being able to help others through the provision of quality therapy services is incredibly meaningful and humbling to me. I take my responsibility to my clients very seriously.
