About My Clients

Do you wish your child could: express their feelings without yelling, refrain from hitting others when upset, manage strong feelings, ask for help when they need it, follow directions better, improve their self-esteem, or manage their impulses and increase their attention span? I enjoy working with kids ages 5 to 17 who are experiencing various emotional/behavioral challenges. I consider it to be just as important and rewarding to work with their families in order to create sustainable change.

My Background and Approach

I'm a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who enjoys working together collaboratively with the family system to create sustainable change. I have experience working in Extended Day Treatment (EDT) programs where I provided intensive group, individual, and family therapy to children experiencing significant emotional and behavioral concerns. As a Registered Play Therapist, I believe strongly in the therapeutic powers of play and fully support children in playing through their problems to achieve growth and resolution. Further, as someone who has been living with Type 1 Diabetes since age 6, I not only have personal experience in this area, but I have also completed training through the American Diabetes Association and the American Psychological Association to demonstrate competence in treating the mental health needs of people with diabetes.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe that traditional talk therapy can be challenging for many children and have found play to be a more natural form of communication with undeniable therapeutic strengths. I also wholeheartedly believe there to be great healing power in the human-animal bond and have begun incorporating this into my work with children. Further, there is no place for blame in therapy. Patterns unknowingly get passed down from one generation to the next. Behaviors are adaptive and every symptom serves a function. I feel it is my job to support your family in creating new patterns of interaction that better serve you both individually and as a collective unit. *Myself and Porter's House, Inc. stand in solidarity with the black community*
