About My Clients
You have shit self-esteem. Maybe you were bullied or just impacted by society's ideas of who you should be. People stress you out, either because you avoid conflict like the plague or you're a people pleaser. You're depressed and anxious. You look like you have your shit together, but you know you struggle with adulting. You have probably had some bad shit happen, whether it's loss, chronic medical issues, interpersonal violence, or childhood issues. You are ready to feel truly happy and stable.
My Background and Approach
I spent the first 10 years of my career working with victims of domestic violence and sexual assault and their children, so I am super familiar with the fucked up things humans do to those they claim to love. I believe we do everything for a reason, even though we don't always know or like the reason. Once we know the reason, we can figure out a better way to meet that need that doesn't come with consequences that we don't like. Often we do things that kept us safe as kids that now causes problems in our lives. Our thoughts and feelings affect each other, so I often utilize CBT to help with how to retrain the automatic ways we react. In order to do this well, we have to understand how our brains work, so I teach and utilize a lot of neuroscience. Trauma is often stored in the body, so I also utilize body based techniques to process experiences. Along the way, I am definitely a cheerleader and celebrate your progress with you.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I do my best to be conscious and inclusive, but I still get it wrong a lot of the time. I continue to work on my privilege as a white, most hetero, mostly able bodied, middle class, English-speaking, cisgender female, who was born in the USA. I approach my life and work from an anti-oppression framework, which includes adults, children, animals, and the planet. I am child free by choice and support women's right to choose. I was raised in a super judgy Southern Baptist church and am no longer Christian or Pagan. My partner is atheist. I come from a military family. I am sex positive and body positive. I support ethical non-monogamy. I am registered as an independent voter and am super liberal. I'm an introvert, external processor, and kinesthetic learner. I don't love phone calls and I do love texting. I have semi-colon tattoos on my wrists for suicide awareness. I play with fidget toys and my pets are often with me during sessions. I've also trained in massage and energy medicine.
