About My Clients
While I work with a wide range of folks, I tend to be the person folks come to when other therapies haven't worked. Relational Somatic Psychotherapy is a deep and powerful therapeutic approach. It works at a very deep and primal level. We combine neuro-biologically informed treatment with mindfulness, movement, traditional talk therapy, drama therapy and more, all in the container of our relationship.
My Background and Approach
Dr. Tickner is the founder of the Neuro-Relational Psychotherapy Institute and co-founder of Tree of Life Healing. A Marriage and Family Therapist in California (License 42576), clinical supervisor, consultant, trainer, and guest lecturer, he works with individuals, couples and groups. Dr. Tickner holds both Masters (Naropa University) and Doctoral (Santa Barbara Graduate Institute) degrees in Somatic Psychology. He has over 25 years of experience, is a Certified Relational Somatic Psychotherapist and has advanced training in various forms of trauma healing as well as Hakomi Psychotherapy and the Psychobiological Approach to Couple Therapy (PACT). Chris is a member of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists, the Glendale Area Mental Health Professionals Association and the United States Association for Body Psychotherapy.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Everyone can and should be able to live the life they deserve and have the relationships they want. We live in a world that is inherently unfair to certain populations. While I don't spout my political or philosophical views in my office, I do feel that in this context it is important that you know who I am. I believe in the right of every human being to be treated with equal opportunity and care. I fight strongly against any form of marginalization. Being a white man, I have privilege in this world simply because of my race and my sex. I am aware of the power that has been given to me without question, without earning it, and I use this privilege to change the world. My role is to support and champion others and to stand up and speak out against any form of racism or sexism when I see it.
