About My Clients

Life can be really hard sometimes. That's true no matter how "well" you've done, how "well" your parents did, or how lucky you've been in life. Sometimes we feel stuck doing the same things that aren't working. Sometimes we feel overwhelmed by all that life is throwing at us. Sometimes it feels like we're moving backward rather than forward. This can manifest as anxiety and panic, or feeling out of control and behaving compulsively, or as depression and lack of meaning.

My Background and Approach

My work as a psychotherapist is rooted in mindfulness. Specifically, this means that I frequently bring my clients back to the present moment to explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences with non-judgment, curiosity, and compassion. It also means that I have an unwavering belief in the basic goodness of all people. I view common mental health challenges, such as symptoms of depression and anxiety, as manifestations of the pain, fear, and wounds we carry with us and which have not yet healed properly. I believe that by compassionately and bravely addressing the fear and pain in our lives we can unlock our tremendous, innate potential for health and growth. I strive to provide a safe and supportive setting in which that potential can be realized. I view the therapeutic process as consisting of a balance of processing and skill-building, individualized for each client. I draw on techniques from ACT, DBT, EMDR therapy, gestalt therapy, and IFS to support my clients in this process.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I hold a steadfast hope for the ability of each and every person to heal and grow. It is truly an honor and privilege to join my clients in that journey. I believe that the healing relationship - defined by non-judgment, curiosity, and compassion - is the primary driver in effective therapy. Perhaps all symptoms we suffer from are rooted in relationship challenges of one form or another, either relationships with others or with ourselves. Collaboratively, we can build a healing relationship and from there creatively work with your thoughts, feelings, and body sensations. I believe that once you can relax into a safe space of validation and empowerment, the change you seek can begin flowing from the wellspring of wisdom within.
