Chelsea Kazmier (she/her)

I have helped clients struggling with self-esteem in a variety of settings, including inpatient substance abuse treatment; inpatient psychiatric care; domestic violence and sexual assault shelters and community counseling services; and private therapy practice. Drawing largely on a person-centered, strengths-based cognitive-behavioral approach, I help clients learn new ways of thinking and nurturing themselves.

As part of my undergraduate education, I earned a Minor in Women's Studies. I have done extensive research on women's treatment issues, specifically gender-specific substance abuse treatment, stress and anxiety in women, LGBTQ issues, sexual assault, and intimate partner violence. I have counseled women in a variety of settings and work from a feminist perspective.

My undergraduate and graduate education in social work provided extensive training on person-centered therapy. I draw on this approach to empower clients and to encourage self-determination both in their counseling sessions and in their lives. I provide a compassionate and empathetic environment which enables clients to discover their many strengths and use them to meet their goals.

I took many graduate and undergraduate classes related to women's studies, feminist theory, LGBTQ issues, and marginalization experienced by women. I identify as a feminist and an activist and have worked with women in several treatment settings.
