About My Clients
I work best with intelligent, driven, hardworking people who have run into a roadblock in their lives that isn't responding to their usual strategies. Often the exact personality traits and habits that make people successful in many areas of life, like overachieving, not complaining, staying humble, and prioritizing the wellbeing of others, can become barriers when people have to cope with grief, addiction, relationship problems, and unexpected life transitions.
My Background and Approach
I'm a licensed clinical social worker. I bring a social work perspective to therapy. A person's mental health is not just a reflection of their genes or the chemicals in their brains. In order for people to be healthy and happy, they also need to cultivate healthy relationships, meaningful work, secure housing, a rewarding spiritual life, etc. Therapy works best when it takes in the whole person and their environment, and doesn't try to treat mental health issues in isolation.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I'm a member of the LGBTQ community. I'm neurodivergent (AuDHD) and have CPTSD. I believe in the value of lived experience for people working in the mental health field. I also believe, broadly, that there is no single correct way to do absolutely anything in life, and that people experience a great deal of unnecessary suffering by chasing the idea of being 'normal' or 'curing' the things that make them different, rather than embracing and cultivating what is unique and worthwhile about who they already are.
